Huang Ti

Myth: also known as Huang Di or th" Yellow Emperor"; the leader of the Han tribe near the Yellow River around 2497 BCE; his tribe as well as a close relatives were threatened by the Zhou tribe; after winning at the battle of Zhoulu Huang Di established the Han and the Han Chinese nationality; this history was supposedly penned by Sima Qian, a historian during the Han empire
Some other Legends:

  • instead of conquest he extended his leadership and rule to other clans through mutual protection

  • the father of Traditional Chinese Medicine; according to Legend, prior to Huang Di the Chinese world-view was that life and health were due to the will of ghosts and spirits. Huand Di "invented" a different path using herbs, breathing, and health-promoting practices- extending his reign to 100 years!
  • invented technology (the "South Pointing Chariot") which was said to help conduct battle during fog, these inventions included either the compass or mechanical gyroscope
  • invented earliest form of Chinese calendar

  • pioneered music and had some role in the invention of the Guqin (form of lute) and Chinese flutes
  • one of the principle gods of the Daoist pantheon
  • considered an archetype for leadership

My thoughts: I personally rather enjoy this particular god because he was known as a thinker and respected for his knowledge, moreso than battles and ruthlessness. He extended his leadership through mutual protection instead of conquest which truly shows alot about him and I find his way of working interesting.

Scenario: The problem is that due to the influence of modern day media, more and more children and teens are facing depression, more pressure, and higher suicide rates than ever before.
Huang Di, as an archetype for leadership, I believe would design and implement a series of courses into the school systems that all students would be required to take and pass before graduating. The courses would be centered around finding confidence in one's self and applying that confidence in every day life. In addition the classes would also help students to become the leaders of tomorrow and empower them with the resources to combat anxiety, high stress, as well as depression.
